Welcome to the Six HAGS!!

Welcome to our Six HAGS blog. No, we are not ugly witches. We are six strong women with four last names: Hoffman, Anderson, Gottfredsen and Scheurer. This blog is the meeting place for reading and discussing the devotional book Miracles.

  1. Education:

We were having a discussion at Kristen's shower about the need for cursive in schools today. I had a conference today about the new Language Standards for MN. I learned that with the new standards the state is no longer requiring cursive be taught in school but isn't making typing a requirement either. Both of these are "district" choices and the state will not comment on either. I then talked to a few teachers about the benefit of our students learning cursive and here were some comments:
    1. Children need to know how to read other people's cursive handwriting.
    2. Students score higher on the ACTs if they know cursive.
    3. People use their left and right brain when writing cursive.

Just some thoughts I wanted to share.

    Love you all!

  2. I wasn't part of that conversation this weekend and this is very interesting news to me. Another way we are lowering our education standards.

  3. Hmmm, that is interesting! I would hope that schools would continue to teach it then. At the very least they need to teach typing. Thanks for letting us know. I guess I do use cursive a lot, but probably my letters aren't all correct.
