Angel in the Police Car

Angels come to us in many different forms and in this story as Kara was driving home she found herself falling asleep and prayed to God to keep her awake. God answered this by having a police officer pull her over and lead her to a rest stop. I can think of a couple moments where I was almost falling asleep while on a long drive and having my phone suddenly go off waking me right back up. While in those moments I don't think of God as being the one who interfered but I'm grateful that He's looking out for me. Some days I struggle finding faith but it's in moments like these that help to reassure that He is looking out for us.

  1. I feel this story is not only about Kara praying to God to keep her awake - but also about praying for God to get her boyfriend to the final step of believing. The beginning verse says "The eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him." Kara has a deep faith and the appearance of the angel not only possibly saves them from crashing, but also is the "final straw" (in a good way) that her boyfriend needs. This story imparts the importance of developing a strong relationship with Him.

  2. The other bible reading, 1 Kings 19:1-9 is about Jezebel and Elijah. Jezebel is the most wicked woman in the bible and she worshiped pagan gods and no one was as determined as her to make all Israel worship her gods. Elijah was a prophet of God and his single-minded commitment to God challenges us all. In this scripture, Elijah just had all of Jezebel's prophets killed and she was angry and threatened to kill him. (She was a queen and had a lot of power.) Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. Eliajah prayed to God. God sent an angel to provide Elijah with food and water and encouragement to continue his journey. The bible gives us examples of answered prayer so that we can know that God is there for us.
