Heaven's Perfect Timing

Well, it seems we've all thought about this kind of situation before since we discussed it in week one! I thought this story was interesting in that she did pray to God before she started her trip to keep her from crossing the summit if it was too dangerous. She didn't realize though at first that her hunger was that signal from God to stop. I think a lot of times I do ask for help from God but then I don't always know how to read those signals either. For Amy in this story, the signal was the physical sensation of hunger. In the scripture reading, the wise men paid attention to their dream from God and avoided returning to Herod. They were wise enough to know that the dream was God's signal. God may not always come right out and TALK to us, like he did Amy. He may give us other signals in our lives though. Do you think a lot of that is trusting your instincts? Maybe the feelings and sensations you have in a situation are giving you clues as to how to proceed. Did you get other ideas from this reading?

  1. I believe that God helps us more often than we think. I believe that someday when we are in heaven and God is showing us the movie of our lives, we will be awe-struck and continually be saying "I didn't know You were there......I didn't know you did that......I didn't know....." And yes, Greta, I believe that we need to start paying more attention to our instincts, intuitions and gut feelings. God gave those to us for a reason. Those things can help us do what is right and stay safe. Experiment, start listening to them in small ways and situations, when it's not a life or death situation, and see what happens. Amy asked for God's help and then almost didn't listen to His answer. Sometimes we think we know best even when we have asked for help

  2. All I could think when I was reading this story is that Mom would have been calling to tell us we shouldn't head home if the weather is too bad. Lol, Mom must act as our intuition sometimes! Okay, and secondly I was thinking, what the heck does this Freshman have to go home for every weekend?? She's missing out on a lot of friends and fun if she just stayed sometimes (especially when the weather is bad). But you know what I was thinking about this week - how amazing it is that I oftentimes turn to exactly the right CD while driving when I'm changing CD's for books I'm listening to. Maybe it's partly a function of listening to so many books, but maybe it's partly God helping me not to be too distracted!

  3. I think it is funny that I can get pretty angry when driving if I get stuck behind a slow person. It completely irks me but often times when I am "coolheaded" enough, I stop to think that maybe there is a reason why I am stuck behind this slow person. I think God is completely in control of setting up caution signs for us. I also believe that a lot of times we do not associate those signs with him. I feel the reading this week really helped me to remember that he is not just up there in heaven, but with us everywhere we go. Even in the car, when I am cursing at those darn slow drivers!

  4. You betcha, I am your intuition, conscience, responsibility, etc. (Just kidding :-) Some times when I have gotten stuck behind a slow driver, just a little further up the road there is a police car sitting in an approach, or we meet a police car and I have to thank God for the slow car that is in front of me.

  5. Jayne, I can completely relate to that. More than once I have been stuck behind someone and just as I get around a corner there is a cop with someone pulled over and I can't help but think if I wouldn't have been stuck behind this person that would have been me.

  6. I thought this was a good story but I had to laugh about Greta's post b/c I was thinking about how we had just read a story like this.
